Well, that was an interesting surprise. I logged into my internet banking just now and found a $2120 charge on my credit card.

Turns out it’s the application charge for the visa for kungfupolarbear. The Immigration department website said it was AU$1420 or US$1420. Obviously the AU$1420 is the better way to go, but apparently if the application is lodged outside the Australia they use the currency of whatever country the application is lodged in. Oops.

But on the bright side, the application only arrived at the Australian embassy in Washington yesterday, and they’ve gotten to it already!

        1. That hedgehog has the quintessential ‘wait, WTF did you just do?’ expression mixed with just the right amount of ‘I’d say “I told you so” but this is the kind of thing you never expect to need to tell someone about’

    1. Once we get married we have to put in the EXACT SAME FORMS in again, but for a different visa. We’re doing the Prospective Marriage Visa one at the moment, once we’re married we get to go through all this again with the Spouse visa. She becomes a permanent resident after that, which is different from actually being an Australian citizen.

        1. Hehe, thanks. She’s absolutely worth it. 🙂

And yeah, it’s ridiculously complicated. The information is scattered over about four PDFs and a bunch of pages on the Immigration Department’s website. I sat down one night and meticulously went through all of them and made a checklist of everything we need. Once that was put together it was a lot less daunting (although there’s still an epic amount of paperwork).
