I’ve always had a bit of a ritual of cleaning and tidying my room up. When I was living with mum and dad, it was always Sunday night. With me having Lily every other week, it’s usually the Monday night after she goes back to Sammi for the week.

I find it comforting, perhaps even soothing. Everything all back in its proper place, nothing strewn all over the floor. Sort of like imposing order on my little tiny corner of the world. I always feel much more relaxed and peaceful when it’s finished.

In a similar vein, my favourite times of day are either really early morning, just after the sun rises but when no-one is awake yet, or really late at night, when everyone’s gone to bed already. I remember walking back from one of the sydneysiders meets way back when at like 4am, and there was this entire army of street cleaners out and about washing down the sidewalk and cleaning bins. It was like an entire other world I didn’t realise existed. It’s hard to explain, but I love that feeling.

  1. Yes! This!

You put it into better words than I did… it was blissful when I managed to clean my whole place on Friday. I keep reading that – “Sort of like imposing order on my little tiny corner of the world. I always feel much more relaxed and peaceful when it’s finished.” 100% exactly how I felt.

Same thing with your second point. There is so much less pressure to be doing things when everyone’s asleep. You get to see what happens behind the scenes and there is definitely a certain peace to that, as well.

  2. Totally hear you on the late night/early morning weirdness. It’s like magic sometimes. There used to be this old man who would walk a goat on a leash every morning at 4am.
Congratulations on your engagement, btw. Late – but I’ve congratulated Kristina a dozen times 😉 just my first time leaving you a comment 🙂
