I love my work

So due to the large amount of (free) drinks we get in at work, and the increasing time that it takes for the office organiser people to stock the fridges, we’ve gotten in vending machines and will have people come in and stock them for us. The drinks in the vending machines won’t cost us any money, it’s just saving time.

😀

The precious is here!

The new lens (35mm f/1.4L) arrived yesterday! And holy shit I can see why people rave about L-series lenses (for those not in the know, L-series lenses are Canon’s absolute top-of-the-line insanely high-quality lenses). It’s absolutely amazing.

kungfupolarbear and I met up for lunch yesterday, then wandered around the garden sitting area just across from my work and took some photos.

Seriously, just wow. It focuses extremely quickly and totally silently, and the bokeh is just stunning. I could go on for ages, but I’ll stop now. 😉 kungfupolarbear assisted with getting the cropping right on those three pics… she really has an amazing eye for what works and what doesn’t. I can look at a photo and see that the cropping doesn’t look good, but specifically why, and how to fix it, often eludes me. 🙂

Then I took another photo tonight, with the flashes.

Lifeless

So yes. LOVE. 😀

Monies!

At work, we get a company-wide bonus each year, and the better we do the more we get. It starts at 7.5%, and goes up to 9.5%. We got the full 9.5% this year! 😀 …so naturally I’m spending part of it on shiny new camera gear. 😉 I’ve ordered the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L, and it ought to arrive early next week. \o/

Work is going quite well, we hired a new guy for Studio support and he started about three weeks ago, and he gets along really well with everyone. The queue hasn’t been horrible this week, so I’ve had a bit of time to relax.

kungfupolarbear‘s new job is going fantastically well, everyone there is nice, and people are sane!

All in all, things are excellent. 😀

Oops

I know I said I’d update this more often, but not too much update-worthy has been happening! Work has been crazy busy this week, as we had an update over the weekend so of course there’s random things not working and exciting to bugs to deal with.

With regards to this post, I bought a book on Objective-C and am attempting to learn it so I can get my iPhone programming on! We play a lot of Magic at work, so I’m going to try to write an app to keep track of life scores. Dead simple, I know, but it’s a project for me to sink my teeth into, and also shouldn’t be horrendously difficult. \o/ It might even end up on the App Store (if there’s not already several apps like this I’ll be shocked), but that’s a lesser priority.

…and that’s about it, really.

Squee!

Holy crap kungfupolarbear and I have been married for two years today! 😮 That is seriously crazy. Most awesome two years ever!

The poor thing is in exceedingly bad pain from her tonsillectomy though, so we’re not doing anything to celebrate (at least not yet anyway). Everyone should send her good vibes. 🙂

All VCed up and nothing to code

I’ve been getting my head around version control and have been using it for my website, now I want to code something more but I have absolutely nothing I can think of that I want to do! My website is pretty much just a bunch of links to other things (LJ, Twitter, Flickr, etc.), and there’s not too much more I can do with it there.

I’d learn Objective-C and make some Mac applications, but I really don’t have anything I want to create. I’ve found from previous experience that if I don’t actually have a pet project in mind, attempting to learn a programming language is doomed to failure. I don’t do anything outside of work that really would require any little scripts or anything, so that’s pretty ruled out too.

Holiday!

The stop-over in Oberon ended up being unnecessary, as it was quite a bit closer to Bathurst than we realised. The place we stayed at was clean, but that’s about all that could be said about it. The bed was exceedingly uncomfortable, and poor kungfupolarbear ended up with a very sore back from it.

BUT! The farm stay more than made up for it. We got there a bit after two in the afternoon on Sunday, and the weather was absolutely perfect. The owner, Elaine, was really friendly, and we had free rein to go around and say hello to all the animals. They had horses, a pony, sheep, chickens, and alpacas, though we didn’t see the alpacas. There was also a very friendly border collie, who absolutely delighted in all the attention we gave her.

We fed the horses and the chickens, and kungfupolarbear got to feed the lamb and hold a chicken! I had relatives who had a farm when I was growing up, but kungfupolarbear has never had the farm experience before. It seriously should be something everyone gets the chance to do.

Tonight we went and saw UNKLE at the Sydney Opera House. Given they’re an electronic show, I was surprised at how much electric guitar and rocking there was. It was quite good though.

And now, it’s time to collapse into bed. Before I do, here’s a couple of my favourite photos from the farm stay. The full set is here.

Baaaaaaaa

Barcoo

I am going places

The stubbiest pony in the world!

Munchkin!

Just had a very fun evening with kungfupolarbear and gypocalypse playing Munchkin Quest!

We loved the original Munchkin card game, but the spin-off games sucked as they added too much complexity (I don’t know if there’s more, but we got given the Vampire and the Munchkin in Space ones as presents). Starting out with Munchkin Quest was a bit slow going due to the extra rules, but once we got the hang of it it was quite fun. I ended up being a three-way win! \o/

Tomorrow we’re leaving for a hotel stay in Oberon for tomorrow night then a farmstay about an hour away from there for Sunday night, followed by UNKLE at the Sydney Opera House on Monday night (we’re having a three day weekend)!

Busybusybusy

Holy crap today was non-stop busyness from the moment I sat down at my desk. I met up with the lovely velvetrhapsody for lunch, since we discovered that we work right across the road from each other! Apart from that, though, I had no downtime until I finished for the day. It was a reasonably productive day at least, but man am I fried.
